Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)

Otoplaty is a surgical modification of the external ears. Many people have prominent ears also known as “bat ear deformity” which can be addressed by cosmetic surgery. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis and the recovery period is very short. Otoplasty for microtia is different. In microtia, there is improper development of the external ear for which a surgically created ear framework is made and inserted at the site of the external ear. This cartilage framework is obtained from the patient’s own costal cartilage (Dr. Adhikari does not advocate silicone prosthesis). The surgery takes 4 stages to be complete and the final results are quite appreciable.

Otoplasty: Preoperative
Otoplasty: Postoperative

Genioplasty (Chin Surgery)

This can be done with the patient’s own bone harvested from the iliac crests as also with silicone prosthesis. Usually this is an augmentation although a reduction of a prominent chin can also be achieved with surgery.
